Chinatown Subway Station, San Francisco, USA

The project-specific solution for realising the inner lining was based on a moveable supporting structure consisting of system components taken from the VARIOKIT Engineering Construction Kit.
The oval-shaped underground structure measures 15 metres in diameter and is up to 30 metres below the city centre of San Francisco.
The high load-bearing capacity of the VARIOKIT system components facilitated the safe transfer of large loads while simultaneously allowing flexible adaptation to accommodate the challenging tunnel cross-section.
In order to keep the supporting structure safely balanced, concreting was carried out alternately on both sides. Vibrators mounted on the formwork ensured uniform distribution of the concrete.
When adapting to match the change in the cross-section, the patented Telescopic Posts could be quickly adjusted to the correct length in just a few easy steps.
